What to expect on a wildlife conservation internship

Your first weeks in the field, demystified
Impact-Trails

From training to real fieldwork — here is how a conservation internship actually unfolds.

Arriving on a conservation programme for the first time can feel like a leap into the unknown — so here is what really happens. Your first days are about finding your feet: meeting your team, learning the local ecosystem, and getting to grips with the survey methods you will use every day. No experience is assumed; everyone starts here.

From there you move into the work itself — transects, monitoring, data collection — alongside experienced field staff. By the end you will have genuine, hands-on conservation experience and a much clearer sense of where you want to take it next.
